Best towns on Lake Garda
There are so many beautiful towns and villages to visit in Lake Garda, Italy. If you’re traveling there and want to make sure you don’t miss any of the best places to stay, here are two amazing towns you should definitely see: Desenzano del Garda and Sirmione.
Desenzano del Garda
Desenzano is one of the largest towns on Lake Garda and is located near the northern tip of the lake. It’s home to a medieval castle that sits on top of a hill overlooking the city, as well as several museums, art galleries, churches, and historical sites.
The beach is also a great place for swimming during the summer months. But if you’re looking for something more relaxing than swimming then consider renting one of the boats available at various locations around town. Or simply taking a stroll down by the docks where there are plenty of restaurants serving up delicious seafood dishes!
In terms of things to do while in Desenzano, I’d also recommend going on an excursion through the countryside surrounding Desenzano. There are plenty of hiking trails that lead up into the mountains, where you’ll find breathtaking views of both Lake Garda and the surrounding countryside.

Sirmione Lake Garda
Sirmione is another beautiful town located on the eastern edge of Lake Garda, and it’s famous for its Scaligero Castle and the terme di Sirmione (hot springs). The town itself has a lot of charm—it feels like you’re stepping back in time as you stroll through the narrow streets and admire the ancient buildings.

The castle was built by Frederick II, who was also responsible for building Castel del Monte in Puglia. His son Manfredi enlarged it in 1240 and added a tower called Torre della Vergine (Tower of the Virgin).
It’s open daily from 9am to 6pm and costs 7 euros for adults and 3 euros for children.
The castle itself has been restored many times over the centuries and now contains museums that showcase Roman artifacts, paintings, and sculptures from throughout history.
There’s also an art museum inside the castle that showcases works by some of Italy’s most famous painters. The gardens surrounding the castle are quite beautiful as well; they contain many different types of flowers including roses and tulips as well as sculptures made out of marble or stone.
The terme di Sirmione are amazing! There are thermal baths just inside the entrance to the castle, but there are also several public pools outside of it on either side of the street that leads into town—all free!
